For a youth AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) sports program like the Sac Town Ballers basketball team, a lot of work goes into just making sure everything goes smoothly so that everyone can have a good time. But it can be hard for the coach to keep track of everything by themselves when it comes to ordering team and fan gear, and that’s where FormPay comes in. A community team to inspire youth to stay active
Sac Town Ballers aims to get young people off their screen and out on the streets to get some exercise and socialize. Our goal is to empower young athletes based in Sacramento through sports, instilling values of teamwork, respect, and resilience.
One of the ways we want to foster team spirit is to get custom team uniforms and gear personalized with each player’s name and number. We also wanted to offer merchandise for fans and families to enhance their connection with the team.
Team merchandise ordering issues before FormPay
As a coach, I have many day-to-day responsibilities, and managing individual gear and fan merchandise for each team member and their supporters would have been overwhelming.
We needed an efficient way for everyone on the team to order their gear, including uniforms and fan merchandise, customized with their names and numbers. It was also essential to have a verification step in the ordering process to make sure the players confirmed their customizations, as errors can easily happen and become costly.
We also needed an easy way to collect order payments so that families could pre-order their players independently. Since we need to pay a supplier for the merchandise, we wanted to avoid manually calculating order totals and chasing down families for outstanding payments.
Lastly, it’s not like we’re trying to run a business with a youth AAU basketball team, so most ecommerce tools out there were too complicated for our purposes without giving the features that we needed.
